Wrapco Goes Solar

WRAPCO GOES SOLAR

The Wrapping Paper Co. has always had a strong environmental ethic.

As an Australian designer and manufacturer we believe, unlike a lot of overseas manufacturers that our products should be Clean & Green.

We have purchased 100% green energy for many years, and always sourced environmentally sustainable materials. This includes paper from sustainable plantations and inks that do not include heavy metals or toxic substances. Waste bi products from the manufacturing process are recycled, and all our paper products are recyclable.

Following on from this philosophy, we are really proud to announce that we are now Solar Powered. Wrapco has just installed a 57kw system made up of 230 Solar panels.

We are hoping that this system will cover 100% of our energy usage and also return energy to the power grid.

Not only is Wrapco designed & manufactured in Australian, but our gift wrapping is now produced with power from the Aussie sun.

Wrapco's Solar system was installed by the guys at True Value Solar. www.truevaluesolar.com.au

Wrapco's Apprentice of the Year

APPRENTICE OF THE YEAR @ WRAPCO

One of the great pleasures in managing a manufacturing business is employing new apprentices and helping them develop into qualified trades persons. At Wrapco Sarah Alderman our 4th year apprentice was awarded 2012 Apprentice of the Year - Print Sector, at RMIT University.

Sarah began working at The Wrapping Paper Company in 2009 and commenced a mature age apprenticeship in 2010. Sarah operates our CMF 6 colour Flexographic press which is used to print gift wrapping paper with.

The awards were held at The International Centre of Graphic Technology in Brunswick. The centre is a primary provider of formal training in graphic technologies including Flexographic printing. The awards were addressed by Michael Goss, Deputy Dean Vocational Education & Training and Colin Lewis, Chairman The Collie Print Trust.

Sarah received her award from Collin Lewis, Chairman The Collie Print Trust which includes a monetary scholarship provided by The Collie Print Trust. The award recognises the top apprentices that have been nominated from their respective discipline. Each recipient must have demonstrated excellence over their whole course of study. Sarah has also been nominated for two additional awards that are to be awarded in 2013.

Life Instyle... a first for Wrapco

WRAPCO at Life Instyle 2013

This is a first for The Wrapping Paper Company. In 2013 we are participating for the first time in the Life Instyle boutique Gift Fair. After many years of supporting and participating in the AGHA Home and Giving Fair the team at Wrapco thought it was time to move on. We always enjoyed participating in Home and Giving especially travelling to Sydney in February, a bit of a break from everyday life. However we felt that the Home and Giving as well as the Reed gift fair had become to main stream which is not what Wrapco is about.

The operators of the Life Instyle gift fair say the following: "Life Instyle is Australia's only boutique trade event showcasing emerging trends, brands and products that are on the cooler side of style and design. With a strong commitment to creativity and originality, our events provide a definitive platform and inspiration filled sourcing experience for design-savvy buyers."

Wrapco has always placed design and creativity first and feel that our participation in Life Instyle is a natural fit for what we do. We hope to see you there, please come and visit us at Stand 7020 from Thursday the 1st of August to Sunday 4th of August.

The Wrapping Paper Company uses 100% Green Power accredited renewable energy. We are also proud to say that The Wrapping Paper Company, is a foundation shareholder in Australia's first community based wind farm, Hepburn Wind. In 2011 the first power connected to the grid was generated at the wind farm. Since then the co-operative has engaged in a number of community projects including funding grants for local community projects.
In February the team at Hepburn Wind approached Ghostpatrol a well known Melbourne artist to design and paint a mural on one of the two wind turbines. We will let Hepburn Wind tell the rest of the story...............
